In a previous blog, I suggested that our shared loneliness is due to the original sin of trying to be like God. We eagerly assume the throne only to find that being a god is a tough gig. We love the idea of ruling our own little universe but then feel disrespected by other divine wanna be’s exercising their own divine right of kings. Uncomfortable with the onlookers telling us that our inner emperor has no clothes we try to find a yes-man to take the criticism for our bold new divine wardrobe. A yes-man who not only does our bidding but also takes the Fall for our fruity ideas. The problem is that most of us don’t actually understand the job description and we end up recruiting unqualified applicants.
Wanted a transcendent God who will take charge of a life that has gone out of control. Must have good people skills and be willing to call the employees friend. A leader who is willing to call out bad behavior but who also believes that no one is incapable of redemption. A Boss who is willing to take off His suit, put on some dungarees, and walk down to the factory floor to help out. A Boss willing to take the blame even when His employees screw up.
If this is what you want in a God then you have no choice but to acknowledge the God of Christianity.
We all have a spiritual hole that must be filled. We cannot fill it with vague insubstantial New Age power that gives us a buzz or cram it to overflowing with a pantheon of pretend gods playing musical thrones. Spiritual seeking should be about properly filling the God void which means we must size up the alternatives and make sure He/she/it is a perfect fit.
You can only fix your leaky life if you know the dimensions of your spiritual hole. You have a choice, you can allow your life to rot from perpetual dampness or you can properly fix the hole with His heavenly reign.
