In the story, Horton Hears A Who, Horton, a curious elephant, is convinced that he has heard the voices of a thriving community living on a speck. He tries to convince others about his sensational find, but is ridiculed and outcast. He hears the cries from Whoville, but they do not. Similar to Horton, the world tells us that they don’t hear God’s voice either and that they will only believe in Him if He reveals Himself in a miraculous display of power. God, however, frequently comes in a gentle whisper. We Christians hear that, “still small voice,” of God and are compelled to share it with others. How do we get them to listen more closely? We need to help our brothers and sisters briefly step away from the deafening cacophony of culture so that they can hear the opus of Omnipresence, “be still and know that (I AM) God.” (Psalm 46: 10)
