Mankind’s illusory sophistication has sadly resulted in his uncanny ability to separate ideas from reality. He frequently quotes authors, promotes their philosophies, and then surprisingly neglects the fact that those very ideas failed in the laboratory of life. How is it possible that Nietzsche can be elevated to the status of postmodern philosophical hero when this superman was woefully unable to prevent the kryptonite of despair from draining his will to power? I think we had best think twice before we burn incense and genuflect before their fortresses of solitude, because in reality, they are not shrines at all, but rather the naturally selected tombs of unfit ideas.
We have effectively eliminated the moral yardstick needed to measure the effectiveness of ideas. It’s like taking our broken car to a mechanic who has his own theory about how car engines work but has never successfully fixed one. We see his shop full of unrepaired cars piling up daily but see him cling to the unrealistic idea that his car engine theory has merit. In reality, when our cars need fixing, we go to the most qualified mechanic, one who has demonstrated a philosophy of car repair that actually mends broken automobiles. So why, when it comes to worldview philosophies, do we seem to think results are irrelevant?
