Our culture got a little darker, a bit blander over the last several weeks. Ultimately, all these efforts to redefine culture are but the cries of the spiritually empty. The anger that seems out of proportion to the issues at hand is actually the sound of profound spiritual hunger pangs seeking living bread and being force-fed cultural happy meals. In the end, our culture won’t be fulfilled, just supersized, and the health consequences won’t be pretty. We can be sad that the cultural wheels are falling off, or we can rejoice that the only remaining transportation is a Gospel bus that always shows up on time. The good news is that the light is always brighter when the world hides in the shadows, and salt is always spicier when the world becomes tasteless.
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
