“When you fall deeply in love, you want to please the beloved…You eagerly research and learn every little thing that brings her pleasure. Then you get it for her, even if it costs you money or great inconvenience. ‘Your wish is my command,’ you feel – and it doesn’t feel oppressive at all. From the outside, bemused friends may think, ‘She’s leading him around by the nose,’ but from the inside it feels like heaven.” (Timothy Keller – The Reason For God)
Do you remember when you first fell in love? Obsessed with the object of your affections, you did some of the craziest things ever. People looking in from the outside would question your sanity, but in your mind you felt like you were never more rational. I think God’s love is like that. The rest of the world looks on and asks why a God would empty Himself and die on a tree for a sinful people, but God, obsessed with His image-bearers, is merely showing us “no greater love.” God’s love looks crazy to everyone who doesn’t know Jesus, but to us it feels like Heaven.
