Christian orthodoxy is the set of beliefs that have been put in place to protect the integrity of the deposit of faith handed down to us from Jesus. Orthodoxy is like a drawbridge into a castle of truth that allows one to enter without having to swim through the crocodile-laden moat of heresy. It is built with solid planks of doctrine ensuring that each step is sound. Our bridge must never restrict access to the King, but it must prevent the cultural marauders from taking Him captive and making Him the spokesman for their movement. While it is designed to protect, it must also be a welcome mat for those who need Jesus in their lives.
Our position on the castle wall should never be used as a soapbox from which to accuse others of smelling of elderberries, but rather as an information booth from which we direct visitors to an encounter with the Holy Grail.
