Under the influence of the inviolable law of love gravity, God’s grace flows downhill and pools in the low points of our lives. Jesus often spoke of those blessed puddles — the poor, the suffering, and the grieving. He made it clear that the people in greatest danger were not those whose homes were under divine water but those who built their homes upstream.
The upstream dwellers, quite happy that the flood didn’t ravage their homes, step out onto their deck and admire the magnificent salvation waterfront view. Occasionally, when they aren’t anxious and troubled about many things, they make their way to the rivers edge and dangle their toes in the soothing water. Although feeling sinfully sweaty from the sweltering cultural heat, they dare not jump in for fear of losing illusory control of their lives. Instead they try to divert the precious flow into their personally parched areas by creating an elaborate salvation aqueduct system but find they are unable to control the Living Water. Frustrated, they plop down in their white-washed lounge chairs and contemplate their next theological move but find that they can’t think over the roar of laughter echoing from the valley below as the broken and contrite joyously splash around in the healing water of God’s pooled grace.
